13 Nov Getting social with Marketti
Only half of small businesses use social media as part of their marketing strategy, according to new research and I believe in the markets industry this figure is even lower, which is why I’m on hand to help out.
A pretty huge 39 percent of us believe that finding out about products and services is an important reason for using a social network which is why it is more important than ever to get your market business using social media.
Over the course of the Summer I have been working with market operators across the country to deliver a social media workshop aimed at giving traders the tools they need to get noticed. What is so fantastic about using social #downthemarket is the ready-made community traders have around them, that big business can only dream of…..and it’s all about the algorithms.
You what Ellie? I can just hear it now but seriously, Facebook and the like have changed their algorithms and the more traffic, comments, likes and emojis each of your posts can inspire, the better you’ll do and with anything from 10 to 500 fellow traders around you, creating a community that regularly does all these things for each other, the more your posts and your market will be seen by customers old and new.
So what does this mean in practise? How algorithms work is a pretty closely guarded secret, rather like unlocking the keys to business success, but put quite simply if you had a regular group of around 15 traders on your market using Instagram who always try to just put a little something next to a new post of yours each time you find something worthy of your attention, that activity will push your post to even more people and they might just be new customers. If you all do the same for each other, then it is a win-win situation and your ready-made community can be creating hundreds of pounds of free advertising for each other throughout the year.
The #1 concern with social is finding the time to do it and I don’t advocate using all of the social networks as this can be a bit overwhelming. Photographs and videos get you the most hits, so if nothing else, using Instagram is a must.
The fabulous Rachel, our Marketti social media guru has created an Instagram Cheat Sheet for all of you to enjoy and our Social Media postcards are very useful giving lots of top tips on everything from the best time of day to post your content to how many times you should be posting stuff out about your business, which is all down to ratios. If you would like some sent out to your market for distribution then just give us a shout.
This week I’m off to Luton Market to do it all over again, just in time for the Christmas rush, one of the most important times of the year for retail which can determine an overall profit or loss for the entire year. Get in right and you can enjoy the slower pace of January and February. Get it wrong and you’ll end up in a hot sweat having to work the coldest months of the year.
If you would like us to come down to your market and talk about social media, how you can get the best from it and learn some top tips, then get in touch and we’ll get something into the diary for 2019.
